Biological resources are stored in biobank and quality control tests are performed according to the UNI CEI EN ISO/IEC 17025-2005.
Other tests can be performed upon request.

Cell cultures: tests for bacteria, fungi and mycoplasma contamination.
The identification of bacterial/fungal strains is carried out either by both microscopic observation and biomolecular tests.
The Mycoplasma contamination can derive from different sources such as animal reagents (fetal bovine serum, trypsin), tissue of origin and technicians. Mycoplasma are detected in solid media and by molecular assays.

Quality control tests Blood, tissue, arthropod and plasmid samples consist in PCR / Sequencing.

Parasites quality is determined by Stereo-microscopy observation and PCR / Sequencing.

Quality controls for serum samples are carried out by ELISA and IFA.

STORAGE OF SAMPLES

Samples are stored at different temperatures in accordance to their own features.

Room temperature with or without alcohol 70%, -20° C, -80° C, and -196° C (liquid nitrogen).

TRACEABILITY OF SAMPLES

Traceability of sample allows to know the number of available samples, their origin, laboratory of preparation / isolation and temperature of storage. Samples can be used for diagnosis, research, production, epidemiological surveys and other applications.

Real-time monitoring and traceability of temperatures and many other physical parameters for facilities or equipment is carried out by a centralized monitoring system connected to an alert mechanism.

The Italian Biobank network of Veterinary Resources (BVR) is managed through an innovative web software application which is able to collect all the information of the biological material managed by Biobank. This application provides software catalogue services to search and browse all of our resources.
